Internet Connection in the UK Home 1995 - 2004 


Some conclusions


The graph follows the standard 'S' shaped curve, typical of the customer take up of a

new consumer product. It indicates convincingly that in early 2004 practically no

further UK residents are investing in the Internet at home. Many who are already

online are transferring to Broadband connectivity, but very few households are

becoming Internet connected for the first time. And this looks like continuing into the

forseeable future.


The percentage of UK homes connected to the Internet has apparently levelled off

today at close to 50%, well below government targets and the predictions of many

experts over the years. It is a memorable figure. I do not know of any commercial

reason why this might be the case.
